  1. If you look at the statistics you will see that farmed salmon in Washington State and Chile both have lower levels of PBDE’s than either BC or Oregon Chinook. WA State Dept. of Fish and Wildlife reports that Puget Sound Chinook have higher levels of PCB’s than any of the farmed salmon in the study. The two factors that determine contaminants in salmon are what they eat and the species. Those with higher oil content will have higher contaminant levels. The Hites study failed to control for this variable so the data is of little use.
