By Chris Heller….then and now….

We are always growing, learning and unfortunately growing older. Just as all things and people change, so should the things they love. When I started Allaroundangler.com a few years ago, I imagined so many things going on within this product. Where we are at now is great and I’m proud of all of you who contribute. The rolling blog is a lot of fun and keeps us up to date on what people are doing out there on the rivers, etc. People have been able to keep in touch through the site and that’s been excellent as well.
As far as the site RESOURCES, I hope you all are using them, because that’s why they’re here for you. You need to find fishing related weather, water, fresh or salt information…..we have it for you. You would like to JOIN CCA….you can easily join through this site. It’s all here for us and I’m proud of all the work we’ve put into it. Guide or lodging information…..recipes or articles from places out of state and other fisheries…..all here.
Entertainment features include over 65 videos, over 700 pictures (you can view as a slide show through the link to Flicker) as well as other tid bits. I would like to see more out of area contributing, and am looking for people who want to commit to providing content from their area(s).
This being said, I plan on using the site for more than just a ‘fishing report’ barometer. It’s time I tried to turn this site into more on an on line magazine. It’s important to me to keep adding content, but not only current reports. There are so many experiences that made each of us the fishermen we are….people who are learning how to fish….or how to fish a new method can benefit from such formats.
In the spirit of driving new viewers to AAA, I really think things can be learned, shared and people entertained through stories, anecdotes, tips, tutorials AS WELL as current reports. I hope those of you that enjoy to write and frequently contribute on the site would imagine a few articles or stories of your own you’d like to share. I’ll do all the proofreading, as usual. No one will know who can spell and who can’t. Lol. Perhaps if you’d like to share something regular (Meskel: Your tying series you have toyed with doing…) that can be arranged as well.
Thanks for taking a moment to check this out and stay tuned for some stories and adventures from my past that I intend to post along with some AMAZING old photos to accompany the stories. Big Tone, thanks for coming back around. Let’s fish.
An Angler with Allaround vision…..May 2009 bring each of you peace, happiness, love and big friggin fish too.

Thanks for the New Year’s greetings. It is great to see that you guys were out in the snow giving it a go. I was out on a local car lot buying a vehicle — the old boat received a near fatal hit by a deer who jumped over a guard rail and landed in front of me (just to the right of center on the front real bumper). Rather than a relaxing day on the river I had an exciting day spending too much money.
I think it is great to see that you are looking to the future for the website. I like the idea of expanding the content. I hope all the readers will step up and provide more articles and stories to you.
Let’s all hope for a good 2009 and a remarkable steelhead season.

Happy new year guys. Dave congrats on the rig. Not quite a Catalina but it’ll do!

So much for the fishing and probably a good thing. The Clack jumped up over flood levels by 2 1/2 feet and is now running over 22.5!!!

This site has been a great outlet for me and i thank you Chris for making this such a great way for us to not only keep in touch, but a source of information as well. I look forward to seeing the site progress, and enjoy being a part of it!! I know the hard work that you put into the site, so once again thanks C!

Heller, Happy New Year fella. You’ve definitely built a great base here with the site, and all I see is you hurdling amazing MT. tops with all your ideas. I showed Jimbo your site on Friday, and he thought is was laid out great. He is going to show Dan and Tim your site this coming week at work.(These are the owners of Fishermans Marine & Outdoors, for those of you who don’t know.) I guess Dan has had a few meetings with our Gov. Ted G. about the sport fishermen, and it seems that he just listens and thats it. No action. I guess that would make sense since Pacific Seafood is one of his (Ted G.) largest contributors of CASH that he has. Any help you need to make this site take off just let me know, and I’ll be there.

BT, I really appreciate you showing the site to people that may be able to help me get it to the next level. I know everyone out there is dying for a NON IFISH related on line resource. I can’t help but think we could be that choice. All the knowledge of Team Salmon, you betchya. Thanks, T.

I know I get hours of entertainment and minutes of envy over you guys and all of your stories and I don’t know if this suggestion would be “against the fishermans credo” but some of the methods you guys use sound like things that I could use up here in Kodiak. (and freaking coon ‘em in front of the locals!!!) I know it worked for you, nephew, when you were here. You also mentioned “HawgQuest” and giving them a run. Well, they always have “riggin’ of the day” and I think a little tutorial on some of your methods would be great for people who are reading your adventures and want to play, too! I know you can’t give locations – any fisherman worth their worms knows that – but maybe some in-depth tutoring would be cool. It could be in it’s own section, like the out of area contributors, or something like that. What say ye fellas? Willing to share?

Jude, I really appreciate your feedback. You have some great ideas no doubt. I was already thinking that some basic and even advanced rigging examples might be valuable to people on a larger level. Your feedback is great and much needed. Thank YOU for telling ME what you would like to see from the product. I’m going to be adding things soon.

I know Meskel and I could do something on the fly side (I alwaays default to you for terminal rigging Heller). He and I will talk and see what we cna do to add content of that nature.
Hellcat
I think a killer monthly course you guys could provide would have something to do with ‘basic rigs’ for what we fish for around here. Stuff that Gear guys can do with flies……not just fly fishermen. Gear guys can drift fish or bobber fish the right kinds of flies without having to buy all new gear. I think a basic jig tying slash steelhead and salmon fly tying segment would be sick. I don’t know if you could do it every month…that might be a lot of work. You will need to do photos of steps etc. But yes, we would do that outside of the rolling blog or main page. Whattaya think of that idear? I’d love to be able to tie me some little Matt Rieds’…………
H3llcat
Salmonid
I think that is a good idea and there is certainly the expertise to offer quite a few rigs. I am sure I could also get some of my out of state buds to offer some approaches as well. A little different spin could also be new approaches and gear. I don’t think it should be lots of stuff but enough to spice things up a bit.
The other thing may be a bit more info on conservation issues that have a direct bearing on local fishing. I don’t think it should necessarily advocate one way or the other but maybe highlight some of the issues that anglers may need to be aware of.
I am just rambling a bit and am throwing this out to see what other folks think.
Sal

That is exactly what we need….people rambling. Seriously. I have done quite a bit of thinking and soul searching since putting up this post five days ago and I have a much better idea of how I can get AAA to the next level. I wanna thank all of you for your feedback….I will be rolling out the new direction of the site as soon as I get my plan put on paper. Nook, I’ll get with you for the printing needs whenever you are available. Thanks to all.

Sal and Hellcat,
I am all for adding the tying rigs that can go both way and Meskel and I are going to start tomorrow night (Wed). We’ll see what happens.
As far as the conservation end and hearing both sides, I can almost guarantee that if asked my uncle (Dennis Richey) who is the founder of Oregon Anglers (http://www.oregon-anglers.org) would contribute a periodical from thier perspective. I will send him an email and ask. He is extrememly active in the fishing community for Oregon and can really help to drive new visitors to the site.
We may even be able to piggy back with his booth at the Outdoor Show at the Expo? I could handle the literature part for handouts for sure. Let me know what you think Hell. I’m sure he’d be happy to contribute.
Hellcat
Richey, it was great meeting with you today to discuss how you can help with the site. I will ship you off those logos asap.
