These first ones are better shots but they just do not show the size of the fish. If you do decide to put some of these pics up would you put a thanks to Jason from Bend for taking the pics for me please.

These pics below were taken a couple hours after I caught the fish. Though this fish looks pretty beat up and the pics just don’t do it justice it is the largest hatchery fish I’ve caught to date in my steelheading career.

It took a jig on 8 lb test and it took me a good 15-18 minutes to bring it in. This buck was only 33 inches long but it was about 18 inches around and wieghed a solid 15 lbs. It was still had full sperm sacs and ended up cutting pretty nice I thought it was a smoker for sure but it was a nice dark pink-red firm meat.

    Damn!! The bottom pic’s look way better than the top one’s. That chunk of steel has got some girth to it. Way to go on the hatch catch!

    JT – nice work! Hard to imagine horsing a big guy like that in fast water on 8 lb. line. Also good that you are doing your part to keep the hatchery genes where they belong…away from the wild fish.
