TEAMSALMON REGATTA 2011

Either this coming Saturday the 29th or Sunday the 30th….several TeamSalmon anglers will be converging on chinook tidewater for a day of reckoning. We’ll fishing bobbers, spinners and trolled baits depending on the bite, day and location.

So far we have the Diamond Back, Josh Colkitt’s Valco, Colin The Crusher’s Valco….and easily several more. DD? Whalen? Matt Love? KHart?

Let’s get an idea of who might be able to make the weekend run (one day or the other) and see how many boats we can gather. I would love to lock down an entire tidewater section with only TeamSalmon All Around Anglers. I know we can do this. The fishing just might be epic as the upper rivers remain near empty.

Just comment here if you’d like to come along with weekend. Explain in your comment whether you have a boat and a crew or are just looking for one or the other.

Cheers.

  4. Hello TeamSalmon:

Sunday will have to be the day for me.

Will that work for you guys?

Hustler….yes, you should bring your boat. We should get multiple boats. MCP….you’re the first one in other than Kirby and MME. You should be good. Stay tuned.

  5. Is my 12 foot worthy for bay area?im sketched, crabbin buddies capsized their 16 footer outside of hammond around 3pm friday and got plucked off the jetty saturday around 1pm,just as i was gettin there to go out with them at 3pm for slack tide.got broadsided by 3 waves and filled up in 15 seconds.scary to see in person, their all ok,hypothermia, stitches and some rib damage on one.you know kevin from the hover scene i believe.just wonderin if 12 ft is worthy as im skethed out now haha. All had pfds on just so foggy no one could see them hangin onto jet jetty, upside down boat and pilings til it cleared i guess.lucky lucky lucky!

  6. Holy SHIT! I am glad he is okay. We are planning on upper bay and bobber fishing tidewater of rivers. Totally different scenario. Hell yes your boat would work. You should do it! Do you have someone in the boat already or could you take a guy if you go?

  7. Sooooo,Im guessing that you guys are thinking of someplace that sounds alot like KILLANOOK….Is that the idea?I just got back from 2 days of crabbing…We killed it,got close to 90 for the weekend…I wanna do a TEAM SALMON GOES CRABBING TRIP TOO!!!

    DD

  8. Damn! I’ve got a deer hunting trip planned, but would be in if we moved it to the following weekend. First weekend in November. I’ve got room for three passengers in the Willie. I’m guessing you are meaning Tillamook.

Don’t really want to fish in competition with Khart though. Next thing you know he’ll catch a Chinook and a Northern Pike in the same day and brag at the weight in.

  9. UPDATE:

Okay Fishin’ Magician…let’s do it both weekends. This Sunday and next Saturday as well. Sound good? Let’s firm it up.

So far for this weekend we have; Sturdy Kirby Cannon, Matt MCP Morris, Possibly Tommy Fishsauce Nguyen, possibly The Crusher…and myself.

I believe it will be Kirby, MCP and myself in the Diamond Back. I had hoped Tommy could get in with The Hustler but he’s not going. How about you, Crusher? You think you’re going to go? Got a spot for Fishsauce? Also, wuttup with you J Blaze?

  10. I’m glad you killed the crabs ToDD! Wanna drag your boat down this weekend for the Tidewater TeamSalmon Saltlicker fest?

  11. Sorry to bust the bubble, but there is a minus tide down there next weekend. Its the clamming season-opener…Minus tides are not so good for the fishing down there.big swings mean lots of grass, using LOTS of lead, and lockjawed fish..I think the best bets will come above tidewater…

    DD

  12. I’ve been doing research and looking at maps of the lower sections of the Tilly tribs for the past few hours. Looks like there are several different approaches we can take for this tidewater adventure. What a maze of channels one would have to navigate to get from the bay up into a some bobber water. The Magician is now thinking kicker motors and drift boats might be a better way to access to some prime spots. A little rain would help the cause too. I’m open to all idea though.

  13. Sounds like fun – and I would be down for crabbing – just don’t think flinging fur will mesh well with gear in these settings.

    Meskel

  14. Mr. Love I am down. We have my driftboat, hopefully the Hustler’s driftboat….hopefully Colin The Crusher’s small Valco and possibly J Blaze’s small Valco as well. That’s four boats for next weekend so far. Let’s keep this dialogue up. Make it epic.

    H3llcat

  15. ” just don’t think flinging fur will mesh well with gear in these settings.”

Hahahaha. No Meskel…you’d have to compromise your values and fish gear for a day. You funny bastard. Say, did you go east last weekend?

    H3llcat

  16. I would have to have values for them to be compromised. I swing fur and flick feathers because that is the gear I posses. Thanks to your site I have a greater understanding of going terminal and it is now a matter of gathering the gear – yet with the second child expecting to arrive on the ides of March I will probably be deferring that purchase to a later date.

And I have been getting around lately. There are things in the works as well.

    Meskel

  17. You’re a eloquent commentor no doubt. Congrats on the second arriving soon. Might you be able to get out this fall and borrown an outfit of mine to ‘go terminal’?? It’d be cool to fish with you soon. I could also do your deal if I borrowed a rod. I have Ross reel and line, but no stick.

I just have to be home for TeamSmolt’s bath by 7. Totaly doable.

    H3llcat

  18. KIRBY and SALTLICKER CREW:

Reports have been dogshit and tides this weekend are minus. Perhaps we should bank fish the rivers instead? What do you think? Bobber and egg in lower stretches?

    H3llcat

  19. Sorry guys I am out this weekend. Taking a tip from DD and going clam digging with the family. I will get in on the next one.

  20. I almost threw my hat in the ring for this, but I think the B Squad is heading east… would love to do something with the driftboat sometime if the rivers would cooperate, I got 5 quarts of eggs burnin a hole in my freezer.

    Capt. Jack

  21. It’d be great to have you….you have a drifter too?

Let’s get it on the books.

  22. Guys im sorry but i don’t think i will be able to make it sunday, some family is in town, as well as my sister and her boyfriend from college and low and behold they all want to gather for an early dinner sunday,if im lucky i can sneak in some early morning hover and take sisters boyfriend out fishing.Im up for any of the following trips since they only visit here and there so i should be in the clear for awhile haha.Good luck out there you guys where ever the weekend takes you, fish, crabs, clams etc…!keep me posted on the following weekends trip to the coast please.

    The Crusher

  23. Crusher how was it up there on Sunday?

    h3llcat

  24. Decent bite sunday morning,6 boats,i got a semi dusty hen and didnt stick the other one good enough and it popped off,was gonna release the hen but the bait was well swallowed and hook in the gills and bleeding so i kept it,2 quarts of eggs and cut decent tho.Kind of quiet as the crowd up there are avid hunters so i think their dispersing and with elk opening up a few more will trickle out.Still fish and fish rolling(bright as well)rain should help at the end of the week id think.

    The Crusher

  25. Okay man thanks for the info. I think we’re still going to roll to the coast. Nice job getting a fish or two out there on Sunday. BTW, Erik the guide sent me an apology. Cool of him. I told him he was cool but never going to forget that mouth on TopNotch.

    H3llcat

  26. Hellcat- yeah, my dad owns a 19′GDF duckworth and a 16′ drifter that he let’s me use. I guess you could say I’m pretty fortunate in the boat department. :-)

    Capt. Jack

  27. Are you serious?thats unheard of these days.Thats very stand up of him and a cool move.Hes always been nice up there to me since ive met him,i think it was a quick cluster fudge that day with the lines tangling and nothin personal id hope, glad to hear that tho.Ive seen a fish shoot downstream from the pipes before and tangle up 6 boats before haha, that wasnt pretty but the girl pulled in like a 40 pounder!on a side note i called lamiglas and their warehouse sale the lady told me is November 19th,Saturday at 8am.just a heads up!are you guys hittin the coast next weekend also?

    The Crusher

  28. NICE brother. Let’s get you in on the Floatilla if we can get it organized for next Saturday.

    H3llcat

  29. Hey great heads up on the Lami sale. I’m sure MME will want to be there. He is a Lami poster boy. Joke. Also, yeah Crush….we’re going to be doing the program again next Saturday. Sounds like we’ll be able to get a lot more people involved next weekend. This weekend is just my boat. Me, Kirby and MCP. We’ll give ‘er hell.

    H3llcat

  30. Hey guys just a heads up on the coast area,i had a buddy fishing a lower river area on the way to tillamook,im sure you aware of the river:)He had heard of multiple car raids and break ins around the area so just a heads up to you guys that bring extra rods/gear and such to pack it with you and leave nothing behind of value.Best of luck to you all this weekend and safe traveling!

    The Crusher

  31. I appreciate the heads up, Crusher. Did you watch the Hover HIghlight show?

Look forward to you coming to the coast next weekend. If it rains enough…we’ll be doing the bank show.

    H3llcat

  32. I did just watch that video today, thats a sweet vid!glad to be part of it and gettin in on AAA at the start of september!lookin forward to the coast, bank fishin bobber and eggs is something ive always wanted to try at the coast as well as throwin some spinners there.I got 30 pound trilene big game on my heavy casting 8’6,what leader?think that should cover me tho with the main setup?all the tackle and floats i got, gettin bait weights tho!You doin boat or bank next weekend?

    The Crusher

  33. Hey brother. You must be off work early today? I wish I was fishing tomorrow too. But just Sunday for me this weekend. It will be a long day on Sunday so I offered up my poppa services on Saturday. Plus, I’m having El Padron and his family over for dinner. So, to answer your question about next weekend….I’d really like to be able to set up on a river from the bank. We need a good flush before then though. Christopher Reed is coming up from the Roseburg area and will be going down there with us. Are you down to go either way? Both boat or bank? I’m trying to get the plans together for butts in seats in case we have to fish tidewater again next weekend. I’m going to learn a lot from Sturdy Kirby on Sunday. I’m sure he’s down next Sat too. So far here are the people that are down to go next weekend: MME, Sturdy Kirby, Fishin’ Magician, Christopher Reed & me….You? And who else? J Blaze? Khart? Hustler? Donaca?

    h3llcat

  34. I will let you know after this weekend if I am going next weekend. I want to badly so that is favorable.

    Steve G aka The Hustler

  35. Daddy daycare next week but the 12th fir sure.

    Donaca

  36. Still at work,Just a break and lunch poster today haha.Next weekend im up for whatever, saturday is perfect. If bank works thats cool with me,or boat as well.Bank can be a bit less hassle and haul if its the conditions your after(im new to the coast area),just park and hike!ive been wanting to toss some eggs and bobber from the bank for along time, never done it before just for steelhead. Its a good chance ‘Air jordan’will be rollin with me.If not i can meet around town and travel down, can drive or pitch in for gas if theres an open seat to ride along with.Anyway to cut down the gas bill helps these days!Fish or no fish saturday its fun gettin out with friends and laughin at you and MME go back and fourth all day haha!

    The Crusher

  37. Heller I use a.2 or 3 oz.float ill see what I.can do

    Sturdy Kirby

  38. Hahahahaha. I hear you, Crusher. MME is one of the funniest bastards I know. If I was seriously talking shit to him it would probably be the last shit I ever talked. It’s fun when he lets me dish it.

Re: next weekend….we’ll just keep in touch on here and make it happen. Jordan is great luck so I hope he goes.

    h3llcat

  39. Kirb I want to make sure and get gas for the boat and gas money to you……I’ll see if I can hit Wholesale Sports for a coupla bigger floats. Can’t wait.

  43. I’m totally in for Sunday if you can find me a spot in a boat. I’d love to fish with the Crusher or anyone who will put my sorry behind in the boat. I have 6lbs of prime eggs and some serious recent knowledge ackwired from a trip on the Trask tidewater/beginning of the regular river from last week. A 39lb hog to boot. Any takers????
