Movie: Steelhead Fever Breaks Hot into 2012

The first few fish of the New Year come the 2nd day into it. On a day when I went out solo…I ended up running into several friends and even family….as we all had the same idea after watching the river levels for the last two days. After all, we’re TeamSalmon. Great minds think alike. Right?

Having fished yesterday with a great angler, El Padron, to no avail in the catch department (although Padron hooked a chromer briefly) I was on the fence about going out today right up until this morning when I woke. Man. I’m glad I banked outta here. I had the most exhilerating and exhausting fight a ten pound fish can give a guy today. The fish almost won. Almost. Truth be told it’s adipose fin acts as diplomatic immunity when it’s all said and done. But getting to the ‘said and done’ part is way fun.

Enjoy this new movie, the first of 2012 (my 306th published Youtube movie) as me, Chris Del Carlo, Mark Murray, Steve Gustafson, his dad Mike and my dad Sal all happen to meet up for the beat down. I also had a really good rap about jigs and tactics with Sal’s pal Dan Shively. Although they ran off way to quickly. I told you guys…..

This movie features a steelhead on a fly rod, a very excited angler in Mike aka Gus…and a 3 person team to get the job done on a fish that truly should have had my bones. Thanks to CDC’s masterful tailing performance and Murray’s epic filming skills….I think this will launch us properly into 2012.

I live for this river game. I truly do. Don’t you? Let 2012 bestow upon all of us here at All Around Angler.com bent sticks O’Plenty all year long!

    H3llcat, you are the most dedicated angler I know. Really not sure I would step into near 32 degree water to chase a fish. Not only did you step into it, you owned it. You bathed in it. You ate it up. I’m so glad you were able to bring that fish to your hand. Pig Sticker…holy cow. I can’t manage to pick them up dead, much less tail them in fast water like that. Hats off to GFK for the non-blair witchy filmage on your 300 yard dash.
    This was a great day had by all. My pops was thrilled and walking a little bit taller for the rest of the day. Thanks for meeting us there and making it an extra awesome day.

    SWEET. Love those chromers. Safe to say Chris that theres nothing that can get in your way when you have a hot fish on!!! Nice aerial display on the second one. Good job guys!

    Epic “Batttle Royale” yesterday. Great to relive it through your video. Some notes for clarification. I actually forgot you weren’t wearing waders until the very end and then I thought “this kid is dedicated.” I counted out 225 paces which would equal about 75 yards from start to finish. You essentially ran a long route and juked tacklers for the last 50 yards. I wasn’t entirely convinced you were going to land this fish once it hit the steps of the rapids below. Pigsticker and I commented that we both would have lost that fish; nice work brother. Lastly, to see you genuinely fired up on landing a strong 29″ steelhead (taped) is what this game is all about. Good on ya… See you out there…

    Speechless!,….without speech……….great movie and what a way to continue the roll and start off the new year Chris. Hey, did you know you didn’t have on wader’s?,……..and now I can see how you guy’s bring them in “old school”,……with your hands,….incredible, congrats!

    Well you said to stick arond and flog the same water and I moved to flog some different (nice looking) water. You got an in river sleigh ride and a nice fish and I got a nice walk. When I was there I thought that you had waders. Good thing you didn’t or the whole thing would not have been as fun. You were very lucky to have Murr and Chris there. I especially liked the pics of Steve’s Dad’s fish and his speciall facial effects. He also stuck around and scored. Who knows what I will do next time around. Overall, good day, nice fish, cool movie and Go Ducks! I did make it home for the game. Sal

    What a fantastic way to start the New Year. I had a ball reeling in that chromer thanks to your mini tutorial. Steve and I left a few minutes too soon to witness that incredible battle that you came out victorious. You have some very dedicated friends that definitely go the extra boulder. Hope to see you on the river again, it was a GREAT day.

    Another great Vid Chris. I loved the part when Pigsticker tails the fish and you go running after it like a fat kid runs to chocolate cake. and of course Gus’ face was priceless.

    I can’t add much more to all these comments as they pretty well sum it up. Loved Gus’ face inserted at the optimal moments, that was great cuz you know that’s how he felt inside! And your cross country gymnastics were classic. Thought your pants were gonna fall off after the second dip into the water! Great movie altogether. Kudos to the videographer keeping up with you without dumping himself as well. And of course, to you, for just being great!
