I had the pleasure of finally fishing with both Will Bome and Chad Hardy this past Saturday. The previous post details the dire straights we faced. Never-the-less I learned a ton about fishing steelhead spawn sacks.
My spawn sack angling is limited to salmon to date. I’ve used the larger sacks for springers when fishing with The Brick….combining roe, sardines and anchovies…but have never used them for steelhead. Mostly because steelhead baits must be very precise in my experience. Nice tight little packages. Symmetrical and so forth. This is difficult to accomplish.
I was officially schooled by Chad ‘Berry Drifter’ Hardy (my handle for him on AAA) in The Way of The Berry…..you see ‘Berries’ are what he calls his perfect little steelhead baits of death…brought to you by NATES BAITS with love.
Chad has offered to write us up a tutorial on how he makes these scrumptious morsels and I’ve accepted gratefully. Watch for that coming soon.
Here’s a photo of Chad from the next day out after our day out with Willem which will keep many of you awake tonight. I want one.

I am like you, I have used the spawn sacks for chinook but not steelhead. I will be interested to see what he shares with us. Welcome aboard Chad. Sal
