DA HELLER STINGS A CHESAPEAKE BAY STRIPER!!!!!!!!
Chris--here is a short story on the hog catch. I was in DC and planning to have a couple of meetings on the Thursday afternoon. My partner walks up and says that both of them are cancelled. Joking, I said that we ought to go fishing. He agrees of course. Rught then, another guy that I know pops up from behind the dividers on a cubicle and says "are you guys serious?" I looked at my buddy and we both say "hell yes." Turns out that he has a 25 foot flats boat and lives on Chesapeak Bay. We ran by the hotel, grabbed our stuffand made the one hour drive to the water. There is no rod limit so we are trolling 6 lines and looking for adult stripers that are moving across the bay to find tributaries to spawn in. Rick, the boat owner tells us to guess how much change he has in his pocket. I guess closest and he says that I get first fish. After about an hour and a half, a rod goes down and I grab it. I am using a pretty heavy rod with 60# spider wire--a bit of overkill in my mind. The fish does a great job and fights like a chinook. Lots of good sounding and a couple of major league runs. We land it and tape it. Beautiful fish and my first striper ever. Thirty eight inches and 22 pounds. The slot limit is 25-35" and above 41". We take the pics with a cell phone and release the fish. That was the only take down for the trip. Anyway, a great way to have to spend time when meetings get canelled. Dad
POPS MADE THE MOST OF THIS BUSINESS TRIP BY MIXING IN HIS VERY FIRST

HUNTER CELEBRATES HIS 5TH BIRTHDAY ON THE GILBERT!
JOHN JORGENSON WITH HIS SON, HUNTER, ON OUR B-DAY GILBY TRIP
I had the pleasure of taking John and his son Sturgeon fishing in celebration of Hunter's fifth
B Day! After two unsuccessful trips out with both Pablo and B Dog Lobey, we were happily
rewarded with three fish on this outing. Hunter did a fantastic job reeling in those hogs (don't
worry, Arpil, we helped out) and congrats to John who did a helluva job throwing B Dog Lobey's
Bank Stick! Next trip out for John.......Spring Chinook, per his request. Good thinking John!

SPRING CHINOOK, SUMMER STEELHEAD & BIG SUCKERS
Four fish hooked in the last week for B Dog Lobey and myself. Two Springers, 1 Summer and 1
Winter. Two of the fish were taken on small 'glo bug' or yarnie-type rigs, both tied with a long
leader for enticing new Summers with a 'swung' presentation. The other two were hooked on
the Hellcat deadly pink worm rig, fished fixed, under a bobber. I managed to wrile up one
Springer and one Steelhead after everything else, no matter how small or what color, seemed to
fail. Oh, and I forgot to mention, an honorable mention, in fact, for our friend the Suckerfish.
Don't ask. Just watch the video. Language not appropriate for children under twelve. Or
whatever.

MY RETRO-ACTIVE STEELHEAD REPORT
Here is an update on a recent trip in search of steelhead. A buddy from work and me headed
out on Friday for a bit of fishing. Got to the site and found we were not the only ones interested
in fishing instead of working. Wadered up and headed to the river. As luck would have it, the
area I wanted to fish was open and not a sould to be seen in 200 yards up or down stream. My
buddy was hitting it with a fly and I started with a bobber and jig trailing a glow bug. We fished
two holes pretty well and I figured I needed a basic change. This was prompted by a nice
steelhead leaping out of the water in front of me basically saying he was not impressed with my
effort. The water had about 5 feet of visibility so I put on a very small corkie and a Luhr
Jensen egg with flourocarbon leader. It didn't take long till I hooked a fish only to feel it catch
me behind a boulder. After some flailing the line cleared and the fish took off. It was a nice,
chrome fish I estimate at about 7-8 lbs. After a few minutes fighting the fish, it decided it
wanted to check out the hole downstream and headed for the riffle separating us. I started to
follow the fish and the line went pop. I can only figure that the rubbing on the rock had dinged
the leader. A little later, in the same hole, I banged another fish. I was enjoying the battle and
figuring where I would land the fish just as it launched itself about 3 feet out of the water, shook
its head and sent my gear sailing back at me. Good adrenelin, no fish in the box. My buddy
hooked another about 20 minutes later. He was using 8 pound tippet and had to play it lightly.
It was a big fish that started out just sulking in the current. When it realized it was hooked, it
got pissed and took him through the tailout of the pool and was down the riffle to the next pool
We were chasing it and I figured we were finally going to land one....not. It popped the line and
left us looking on in disbelief. Fished pretty hard for another couple of hours and had no more
action. Enjoyed the day and enjoyed the fight but can't show any pretty pictures, maybe next
time. Cheers-Sal

H3LLCAT & B DOG GET THEIR 'BEND ON'
April has settled in, and that means chasing Spring Chinook. Two days in a row, B Dog and
myself searched high and low. Fully Geared with anything you could imagine, we were able to
successfully hook one Spring King ( B Dog) and hook and land a gorgeous Mint Bright Winter
Hen. She ate a WHOLE threaded sand shrimp that I had flipped into some soft water along a
seam with very light lead. She really inhaled that thing so we had to act quickly and with light
hands. We slid her out of the net after B Dog's killer scoop over a ledge as quickly as we could,
snapped a quick photo, and, luckily, she promptly exited.

TEAM SALMON TYING INTO FISH MORE OFTEN

B Dog Lobey Hammers a Hook Set!

Ghost Face Goes 1 for 1!

We seem to be starting to hook into fish more often these past few weeks. Not just Winters,
either, starting to see a few hatchery Summers. Well, while many of our fellow anglers are
chasing Spring Chinook in the big systems, we are still thrashing around in the mountains,
driftfishing, fly-fishing, taking pics and videos for all of you to enjoy. Some 'hot rods' include;
H2O, Barometer Brent & Ghost Face all with catches this week. Way to go guys! Pics of these
Guys' success to come soon. And, last but not least, honorable mentions go to Pops and his pal
Shively, for going 'O-Fer', Me (Hellcat) and Meskel for getting some Winters a little over a week
ago, and B Dog Lobey for making, what may be, his last Steelhead run. See Fish Talk for more
on that!

HELLCAT BUSTS OUT THE FLY ROD!
(self-shot video of Steelhead fight and release below...)
After talking to H2O about his friend Brents' escapades the day prior, I decided to pull a
solo run on some Steelhead. Even more than that though, I was excited to run a couple
of my new 1/16th ounce, Matt Reid Marabou Jig Specials. I fished them on my eight
weight, under a yarnie indicator. I dead drifted them with and without lead, picking up
a fish each way. One fish taken on a pink scud-colored flashabou fly/jig, the other taken on
an orange with dark red. The bigger fish came on the weighted hook-up. I saw several
other dudes out today, but no other fish hooked that I or the ODFW dude knew of.
Thanks again for the awesome Ties, Matt. Here's one that gobbled an orange............

There are a series of videos I shot while playing this fish including some
underwater video of this fish being released......here...click below

GARIBALDI HOUSE STRIKES AGAIN & RIVER CITY FLY SHOP COMES
TO HELLCAT'S RESCUE!
In celebration of my 33rd Birthday, Team Salmon rented the Garibaldi House for a little
Steelhead getaway. As an added bonus, Nookslayer and B Dog Lobey got together with Don
over at River City Fly shop and came up with a brand new pair of Chota breathables! I've
only had them wet once, but we're dry. That's a good start. I love the fit through the legs
better than any Simms. I'll let you all know what I think once I've walked the Kilches a time
or twice. Thanks again River City Fly Shop!
Now, let's check out the workings of Pigsticker.......................He's unstoppable.........
